Focusing on economic conditions in most of the researches conducted in the field of challenges facing the family in Iran, especially the downward trend of population growth in recent years, has largely marginalized the role of factors and cultural contexts that are effective in this issue.
This research aims to examine the cultural challenges facing the institution of the family in Iran and in order to answer the serious question "why the Iranian youth's interest in forming a family has decreased and as a result the consequences such as the fall in the rate of childbearing despite the great emphasis of pure Islamic teachings on the above issues" The following hypothesis is based on the second demographic transition theory using the analytical-descriptive method through a library study:
"The spread of individualism caused by the dominance of the economic meaning in defining power based on the level of capital possession during the transitional period, which has resulted in the intensification of gender homogeneity, has challenged the family in contemporary Iran more than economic hardships."
The findings of this study show that the function of the family has changed in the prosperous and rich class of the society in addition to the poor and middle classes, while challenging the determination of the economic factor in reducing the marriage rate and the fall in childbearing, exploring cultural factors including the significant growth of individualistic behaviors.
