Abstract
This study aims to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 health crisis on the fertility intentions of married women of childbearing age in Shirvan County through a survey method. Utilizing theories of risk avoidance, rational choice, precarious society, and McDonald’s gender equity theory, the research examines the effects of the COVID-19 crisis on women's fertility intentions. The results indicate that half of the married women in Shirvan County postponed their fertility until better conditions arise due to the corona crisis. The use of Chi-square tests and V. Cramer's analysis shows a statistically significant relationship between fertility intentions and variables such as age group, employment status, education level, number of children, access to healthcare centers, feelings of economic insecurity, and perceptions of gender equality. However, no statistically significant relationship was found between fertility intentions and the prevalence of COVID-19 in the family or feelings of social fear. This study demonstrates that the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on socioeconomic and demographic mediating factors affecting fertility intentions leads to changes in women's fertility intentions.
